4 Steps You Can Take To Reach Your Goals In The New Year!

| January 4, 2012 | 0 Comments

When we welcome a new year, we do it with joy & enthusiasm!! Unfortunately, our joy and enthusiasm soon fade as the year progresses. But, there are four things we can do to help us maintain the same level of joy and enthusiasm we have on New Year’s eve:

1. Set your goals: Take a piece of papers and write a list of things you want to accomplish for the year. No details just write a few words. Let it sit for a few hours. Then go back to it and review the list. Cross out the items you are least passionate about. Do this until you have narrowed the list to three items. Once this has been done, number the three items from most important to least important.

2. Write your plan: Write out a plan about how you are going to accomplish your goals. Make a daily plan which includes the specific amount of time you intend to spend on the goal every day. Write out specific steps you need to take to accomplish your goal. You can use mind mapping programs like Mind Node (for the Mac) to put down and organize your ideas. You can then use a great website called Trello.com to keep track of your work and progress. This service is easy to use and free.

3. Get moving: Once the plan is made, start implementing it right away, even if it means that you are going to start slow. Don’t put it off, the more you out it off the more likely you will be to drop the ball.

4. Review & revise often: Review your plan every week and revise as needed. If it isn’t working, keep at it but don’t hesitate to adjust your plan and incorporate what you have learned.

If you don’t have a plan, you are never going to succeed. If you don’t have a plan, you will never keep up the hope and enthusiasm with which you start the year. The secret to success is hard work; but hard work without a plan is a recipe for failure.

Whether it is in life or in mediation, having a plan is crucial to success. May your entire year be filled with the same joy and enthusiasm with which you celebrated the new year.

Happy New Year!!
